Malawi Table with Shelf
Story behind the product ~ Meticulously woven using rattan and held together with knots, no glue, each side table is an individual work of art with no two being the same.
The Tiliaceae shrub is used as jute for the weaving of the side table. The shrub grows in the summer months and the long roots are harvested, coiled and dried. In the winter months there is no material available to weave with, therefore weaving is limited to about 8 months of the year.
As it is constructed from an organic product and it must not stay damp for long periods, as mould can settle. If damp, drying out in the sun quickly is important.
Country of origin ~ Malawi, Africa.
Materials ~ Organic material including river reeds and dried Tiliaceae shrub (jute)
