Malawi Chair Double Seater Black
Story behind the product ~ One of the most recognised cane chairs in the interior world is the Malawi Chair. Known for both it's beauty and functionality it supports and protects the age old traditions of cane furniture making in Malawi, Africa. These traditions are passed down through the generations and our Malawi range exudes the true craftmanship of these Malawian artisans. Meticulously woven using rattan and held together with knots, no glue, each chair is an individual work of art with no two being the same.
Making and weaving a Malawi chair is a long labour intensive process which takes months of planning. The Tiliaceae shrub is used as jute for the weaving of the chairs. The shrub grows in the summer months and the long roots are harvested, coiled and dried. In the winter months there is no material available to weave these chairs, therefore weaving is limited to about 8 months of the year.
