Story behind the product~Colonial figures are hand carved from timber, by a master carver.
Originally these figures were intended as symbols of social status, evident through the use of brightly coloured paints. When a person commissions the carver, they reveal what they think that their ideal mate would be, manifesting European characteristics (mostly French Colonial), or what they aspire to become.
These figures illustrate how the Ivorians from the Ivory Coast interpret and re-interpret the colonial presence, in art.
No two statues are exactly alike as they are carved specifically for one individual.
