Mask ~ Punu
Story behind the product ~ The Punu mask is commonly identified by its beautiful hairstyle and female features. In some cases there is scarification on forehead, which is considered a mark of beauty. The elaborate hairstyles suggest that the wearer is wealthy as her hair has not been flattened by the need to carry goods. Masks are used to entertain audiences during festivals or celebrations. The female face with coiffure and two side braided hairstyle is commonly used by women of this region.
The Punu people reside along the upper Ngoumie River and live in independent villages that are divided into sects and families.
Country of origin ~ Gabon and the Republic of Congo.
Materials ~ Indigenous Wood.
